BAROQUE SICILY
A PHOTOGRAPHIC DISCOVERY TOUR THROUGH SOUTHEAST SICILY
from May 6 to 11, 2025
The devastating earthquake of 1693 destroyed large parts of the south-east of the island. The reconstruction of the cities offered scope for innovation. In Sicily, the Baroque style that prevailed on the mainland merged with local traditions and the influence of Spanish rule. The result was the unmistakable Sicilian Baroque style that we will be amazed by again and again on our journey.
The architecture is a special feature, but in no way the only highlight of this trip. Especially in spring, a drive through the countryside is a feast for the eyes: yellow broom and red-flowering hills, lush green gorges and forests and azure blue sea. The small villages merge with nature and sit majestically on the top of the cliffs.
During these days, we gain an insight into the diversity and magic of Sicily. We explore lively Catania with its colorful markets and experience the bizarre volcanic landscape in the Etna Regional Park. We visit mountain villages and the baroque cities of Syracuse and Noto.
We indulge ourselves with Mediterranean Sicilian cuisine and the good wines of the region and enjoy the flair of the island in spring, in my opinion the most beautiful time of the year to travel.
